How it came about?
It all begins with an idea. After working in the software industry for 39 years by spending 7 years in three startups and 32 years at the iconic IBM Research division, a fresh idea of doing software work on my own terms took shape in the past 18 months. Required work to form MoonRay Technologies and to obtain a registered USPTO trademark for it was already taken care of. That motivated me to jump into action sooner rather than waiting to do it in 2025. Through my clean work practices at IBM, I have built a good reputation inside that company with my colleagues as well as with many marquee customers I closely worked with. I have never formed any enmity or dislike in my work circles. All of that helped me to make a change in the way I want to approach work going forward.
In my 39 years of work in the software industry, I have gained a balanced experience of working with product development as well as co-creating solutions with the customers. Especially, I had plenty of scope to do that inside IBM. I’m now more attracted to the idea of fully helping customers with practically meaningful Data & AI software solutions. That sparked the interest in me to go ahead with the launching of moonraytech.com on Oct/14/2024. It is a dream come true to do it in our great state of New York where we are residents for 32 years.
IBM Research division is an iconic place in IBM’s storied history and it was a great fit for my career. Yet, the idea of starting something on our own to focus more on doing innovative work directly with customers took a higher priority. All the diverse experience I gained in IBM will help me to continue even more clearly with an increased sense of purpose. Here I’m reaching this moment on this day to be on my own via our company. As outlined in the What we do page of this website, focus will be on helping customers with their solution development through independent consulting and/or via turnkey projects. There are additional services available as well covering software design advisory and training + education.
Data & AI software solution development is where we can add great value to our customers. As explained in the company description, there are many distinct use cases that we can help with in a platform agnostic way whether it be Apache Flink, Kafka Streams, Teracloud Streams (formerly IBM Streams) etc. Over the years, I have accumulated stellar customer testimonials for my work with them by being inside of IBM. Now, I’m set out to build on top of that earned trust with full independence in a free ranging scope for a variety of customers.
